Dear Frank, et al:
The whole point of suggesting that the vests be ordered from ARRL was the
"Amateur Radio Communications" printed on the back that is intended to show
the masses who we are at public service events and provide some degree of
safety.
Now if you really want to save money, the club could just buy a box of store
brand white thirty-gallon plastic trash bags (but only when they're on sale)
and cut head - and arm holes in them and write on the back with a marking
pen, "Communications Provided By The Cheapskate Amateur Radio Operators of
the CCARC." We could have a bylaw that members would be required to put up a
$50 deposit to use one and if they didn't return it, the club would keep the
fifty bucks! Of course, there's always the chance that someone would walk
off with the Magic Marker that might cost a whole dollar and then where
would we be?
Personally, I don't give a rat's hindquarters if the club buys them or not.
If I really wanted one, I'd certainly cough up the the ten bucks to buy one.
I saw the ad and thought that the club could make use of them. I certainly
didn't intend to put the penny pinchers out there into a frenzy.
