Keith
Just a couple of thoughts on the way it was done in the past. Use as
a guide or trail blaze as you see fit!
-Pretty much the food is selected by the FD committee as it needs to
reconcile with the budget
-Food budget can be stretched by asking everyone attending to bring
a covered dish.
-Club members have been called to remind and invite them to FD and
the dinner. They are asked the number attending. That is a good time
to ask them if they will bring a dish, what it will be or suggest
something (potato salad).
-Their WILL be AC there. The big generator!!! By the way I have a
large 50 cup pot but I think that may be too large. I may have a
smaller one.
-The long lost FD way to make coffee is to have a fire, campfire or
other, have a traditional western style (Cowboy) pot, dump in the
amount of coffee you think you need, put in water and boil the heck
out of it. When done, add a cup of cold water, this will settle the
grounds to the bottom. Pour off coffee slowly. If it is too weak,
you have two choices .... let it brew for a while longer (definitely
works) next time add more coffee to the pot. If it is too strong,
dilute as necessary and/or next pot put in less grounds. This is
real coffee!
-You will need utensils, paper products.
- You will need a grill (gas is easier although some diehards
continue to insist on charcoal) or two as we are in an open camping
area. The rest of the park is ball diamonds and soccer fields etc.
-The Club buys the soft drinks, hot dogs, Hamburg's, rolls,
accouterments and sometimes fried chicken (it is best to make the
selection before hand and work a deal with the local Roy's or KFC).
That way you may get a better price and ready on time. (Things to
remember when dealing ... we are non profit org, use tax number, we
are representing Carroll County in an national emergency exercise,
etc.). A couple of years that I had done FD and the dinner I
shopped at Sams Club/BJs and bought most things in bulk.
-I am told blondes due have more fun
-You got it wrong. It is always colder in New ENGLAND than it is in
summer.
-the astronauts "shut" the door but they never spilled the beans
about the lock. Guess we will never know if they were afraid of the
man in the moon.
