[K3PZN-List] WHASAMATTAH WITH 70cm?

Al et al:

I could not agree with you more. Most of the time I prefer to use the 450
machine because it is more readily available. A small group of us will use
it more than 2m from time to time. And I "hang out" there more often than
2. Not been there lately due to on-going equipment installations in my
vehicles.

But in spite of the "plethora" of dual band rigs on the market, a basic 2m
only rig is still dirt cheap compared to a dual bander. Largely because of
the huge numbers that the manufacturers can sell. So most new hams will
more likely get on the air this way.

I'm sure you are aware of the distinct advantages of each of the FM bands,
but I propose a few presentations ( at club meetings) as to the differences
between them and maybe hold regular nets on 450. Members have already done
this to get more interest on the 6m repeater and there is now a whole group
of folks from all around that check in on Wednesday evenings.

Strangely enough, there are more 220 repeaters on the air than there are for
6m. The repeater directory lists lots of 6m machines, but very few are
operating. After getting some 6m stuff, I traveled from there to No. NJ and
could hardly hear any. We are one of the few clubs that have one. But 220
is alive and well. Get a rig and you will find a ton that will come up.
But it gets even less use than 450 and has much better range.

Food for thought...........

John, AK3Z
