[K3PZN-List] Are we really prepared?

Yesterday, I was able to view the damage from the F5 tornado in La Plata up
close and in person. It reminded me of the kind of devestation we see from
the Middle East.
Are we, as a club, really prepared to cope with an emergency of that
magnitude? One-third of all businesses were destroyed. Hundreds of homes
were destroyed. Locally, cellular communications was 'iffy' at best. Can
CCARC handle that quantity of emergency communications when most phone lines
are down?
The Gamber tornado was 'small potatoes' by comparison. The damage from this
storm was over 400 yards wide and about 24 miles in length.
Although I can't speak for anyone else, I need more training. I have
Skywarn training set for 5/11. Beyond that, what else can/should we, as a
club, do? I know that there are several well trained club members. How do
some of the rest of us get trained?
We should even practice the procedures for initializing an emergency NET.
And what about access to the EOC for the new members?
Should we hold a training meeting, discuss this on-line, or what?
Your thoughts and comments are always most welcome...
