[K3pzn-board] Tailgatefest June Dates Available

Hi Bill and all,

Yesterday I was spending some face time 
with a ham radio friend of mine who was 
passing through town from Kansas. We 
talked about his recent successes on high-
altitude balloon experiments out there. 
Interesting common ground. But this is 
why I missed last night's BoD meeting. 
Sorry to have gotten tied up! 

The Tailgate Fest was wonderful. I got 
lost in chatting too much with all our 
ARRL officials present and showing off 
the latest in the balloon stuff: printed 
circuit boards for the different "levels" 
of the PICetSat module. Possible 
food for a future club presentation! 

Although I don't know the exact date of 
Father's Day next year, here are my two 
cents, basically, if I were present at the 
club planning session last night: 

IS IT BROKE? 

1. I never had a problem with our Tailgate 
Fest dates in August, although I must admit 
in 2008 & 2009, they bumped into family 
vacation dates. How good it is that we 
don't require a marching army of help to 
pull off a successful Tailgate Fest! 

TIMING

2. Changing the dates for the better good 
of the club or the Amateur Radio community 
is okay by me, although, personally, I balk 
at Father's Day. That's kind of a family 
day for us, as opposed to a free get-away 
morning for many dads out there, which 
I know they deserve and enjoy. 

MY GREEDY OPINION

There are always exceptions of course, 
but off the top of my head, Father's Day 
is a day that I would "probably likely" not 
support as a helper or attend as a Joe 
Q. Ham. But that is just my own 
personal outlook.

Guys: Last evening Steve, Chuck and I discussed the possibility of moving our Tailgatefest to Father's Day next year in order to get away from the heat of August. I spoke with Nicole at the Ag Center to see if the facility was available. It is not...they have the Farmers Market on Saturday (18th) and a Scouts camping event on Sunday (19th). The only open weekend dates that are available in June are: June 4 & 5 June 11 & 12 June 26th (no good - Field Day) So unless there are no other events in the area on the available dates we are stuck with the August time slot.
