Subject: [K3pzn-board] Request from FAR
Date: Fri, 9 Jul 2004 12:10:24 -0400
Greetings Gentlemen;
I have a request from Dan Blasberg (FAR President) asking if the CCARC
would like to set up a VHF station and to possibly operate in the September
VHF QSO Party at the Gaithersburg hamfest.
If the club would approve supporting this project, then appropriate club
resources, such as a crank-up tower, antennas, and possibly radio
equipment, can be made available for the activity.
At our last board meeting, I indicated that we as a board need an
opportunity to discuss this project so that we can make a recommendation to
the membership. If we can reach a consensus now, then we can make that
recommendation at Monday night's meeting.
My opinion is that if there's sufficient interest in doing this, then I'm
in favor of it. A number of years ago the CCARC set up an HF station at the
FARfest, and we did this for a couple years. It makes for good ARES
practice, and it can be an opportunity to promote our hamfest as well.
We'll need one or two persons to coordinate with FAR to determine the
location, and to see that power is made available. (I have two individuals
in mind) We'll also need to be sure we have operators lined up to cover
both days, and provisions for keeping our equipment safe.
73; Steve, N3SB
