I think we should shop the various insurance companies to give us a
quote on our total coverage (both liability and the van). It does not
hurt to look. If we find it is considerably cheaper somewhere else, we
should switch. Insurance is mostly money for nothing and no company
ever wants to pay a claim even when something happens, so why not go
with the company that gives us the best overall deal?

I agree. This seem unrealistally high... especially for a vehicle that
will
be driven less than 1000 miles a year. Did you try "bestquote.com" yet?
Personally, I've had pretty good luck with Nationwide.
Although I'm not an insurance expert, I'd like to think we should be
able to
find insurance for less than $1000 per year. It it so high because it
is a
"Special Purpose Vehicle?"

Greetings Gentlemen;
I got an estimate back on insurance for the van. Barnes-Bollinger (they
have the club's liability insurance) checked with a couple providers and
got the best numbers from Progressive.
Parameters:
1986 Ford Econoline 350, Driven Approx 1000 miles per year. Three
drivers
on the list.
OPTION ONE:
Liability $500K
Personal Injury Protection
$250 deductible on Comprehensive
$500 deductible on Collison
Estimated vehicle value $6000
Price -- $800 for six months.
OPTION TWO:
Liability $500K Only
Price -- $709 for six months.
This is a lot more $$ than I was expecting. Let's hope there's an OPTION
THREE out there somewhere.
