To all of our email list members and licensed amateur radio operators.....

It is encouraging to see everyone's interest and participation in Calvert Amateur Radio Association activities, including the use of the K3CAL linked repeater system. However, recent activity on the repeaters, has prompted the need for this reminder.

First, By Federal Law, Only licensed Amateur Radio Operators are authorized to use the K3CAL repeater system. Please do not confuse this with GMRS. A GMRS license is NOT an amateur radio license, The Calvert Amateur Radio Association is currently in the process of assembling and installing a GMRS repeater, specifically for use by those with a GMRS license. We hope to have it on the air soon, But it is not on the air yet.

The K3CAL repeaters are licensed Amateur Radio repeaters, requiring an Amateur Radio License with a valid Call sign to legally use them.

Second, By Federal Law, amateur radio operators are required to ID, (say their call sign) every 10 (ten) minutes. An easy way to remember this, while using the repeaters, is to pay attention to the repeater's CW ID. They are programmed to automatically ID every ten minutes. If you hear the CW ID while using the repeater, then chances are it's probably time for you to ID as well.

CARA, encourages and wants everyone to participate in everything that the club has to offer. Everyone is welcomed to join us, but we have to do so legally. Violation of the Federal Laws mentioned above, can and do, result in, Fines, Suspension of license, even loss of privileges for both the operator and the club,, and, yes, even imprisonment.
