[K3CAL] Borrowing the APRS digipeater

Understanding APRS, WinLink, EchoLink and other internet assisted communcations systems would be a great topic for one of our meetings.

I use it for tracking my APRS radio during travels, but that's a pretty weak reason for having it. I would like to learn more of its capabilities also.

Can I ask a question about APRS?
What and how is it used?
Back in the late 80’s I was very involved in Packet Radio and used several type of packet modems.
Back then it was basically used for a QSO or a message delivered to a mail box. I could send my son who is
also a ham in Cleveland a message from Waldorf. Since the communication revolution and smart phones
just how is packet radio used today? I have been out of the loop for quite sometime.

All,
This will not be a problem soon... David / W3TOJ has already volunteered to assemble an APRS station with club owned equipment. We already have mostly what is needed in inventory.

Below is a copy of an e-mail I sent to David on this subject.

David,

At our May meeting, you volunteered to work on assembling an APRS station for CARA.

In order to assure that we have the proper equipment in our inventory to accomplish this station, can you put together a list of what equipment, cables, and antenna you will need? I will do my best to see that you get what is needed.

Thanks for taking on this task. 73,

Honestly, posting more accusatory and inflammatory remarks to the club
list is only taking away from what this club should be about: amateur
radio. If you don't know, ask, but lets stop the false accusations and
general negativity. We just want to have fun and play radio.

Agreed... Lets Have Fun and drop this stupid issue....

Looking forward to talking to you on the Repeater.....

Eric..You answered my question...

The only thing that peaked my interest was the K3CAL-1 was once used and

it looked

the APRS equipment belonged to the club.

I'm not sure why anyone would think I would take club infrastructure offline for personal use. We've also talked about the club purchasing an APRS digipeater to replace my gear at meetings and other club events so I suspect most active members have at least heard about it.

BTW I DID NOT post more accusatory and inflammatory remarks to the club.

I was concerned about the removal of equipment used by the club members.

That is the way I expressed it.

How inconsiderate of you. You are high on and push for a K3CAL APRS

digi-peater and now you remove it for your convenience.

If the above isn't accusatory and inflammatory then I don't know what is.

Eric you need to clarify what you are doing and why. YOU never said you

were going to remove your own

personal equipment and take it to NC, did you?

I need to take my APRS digipeater with me

And, yes, in the original email[0] I said that I needed to take *my* APRS digipeater.

Please be more specific in the future so members won't be confused.

Instead of assuming someone is doing something malicious how about ask the question and avoid assumptions.

BTW if the equipment is YOURS why did you use the Club Call K3CAL on you

personal equipment?

Like I said before, Bob asked me to use the club callsign on it when we put it up in Sunderland. I had no problem with that.
