[K3CAL] Borrowing the APRS digipeater

Can I ask a question about APRS?
What and how is it used?
Back in the late 80’s I was very involved in Packet Radio and used several type of packet modems. 
Back then it was basically used for a QSO or a message delivered to a mail box. I could send my son who is 
also a ham in Cleveland a message from Waldorf. Since the communication revolution and smart phones 
just how is packet radio used today? I have been out of the loop for quite sometime.

This will not be a problem soon... David / W3TOJ has already volunteered to assemble an APRS station with club owned equipment.  We already have mostly what is needed in inventory.

Below is a copy of an e-mail I sent to David on this subject.

At our May meeting, you volunteered to work on assembling an APRS station for CARA.


In order to assure that we have the proper equipment in our inventory to accomplish this station, can you put together a list of what equipment, cables, and antenna you will need?  I will do my best to see that you get what is needed.

    Eric you need to clarify what you are doing and why. YOU never said you

  And, yes, in the original email[0] I said that I needed to take *my* APRS digipeater.


    Please be more specific in the future so members won't be confused.


  Instead of assuming someone is doing something malicious how about ask the question and avoid assumptions.


    BTW if the equipment is YOURS why did you use the Club Call K3CAL on you

    personal equipment?


  Like I said before, Bob asked me to use the club callsign on it when we put it up in Sunderland.  I had no problem with that.
