[K3CAL] In response to the open letter to the board nastiness going on

To all members of CARA;

A lot of misinformation and deliberate disinformation is being passed
around about Eric and me. I want to set the record straight right now.

Nothing I've done or said is in any way an attempt to harm the club or
its members. I've also given everyone ample opportunity to ask questions
and discuss what I say or do at any time. My email and phone number are
both published in the members list and has been as long as I've been a
member. Instead, the general membership has taken it as a given that my
intent is to do harm. Nothing could be further from the truth. However,
instead of approaching me directly, coming to meetings and speaking up,
or even just sending a personal email with your concerns, it's been
common practice to denigrate me in email that is sent to the entire
membership. These attacks have also been carried out over the repeaters.

I've been accused of being an egomaniac and wanting to line my pockets
with CARA funds and I suppose, equipment. I was accused of this by Bob
Sheskin, who apparently has taken club radios and used them as his own
for the last two years. And I'm going to go on record right now that
I've reached out to Bob, but have received nothing but vile and nasty
responses. I believe that Bob is being malicious about what he's telling
everyone and doesn't have the courage to come to a meeting and face me
in person, with witnesses, and state his accusations. He is a sniping
e-mail bully.

Dave Weaver has gotten information from other members, always second or
third hand. Dave is either misinterpreting the information he's getting
or simply not listening to what he's being told. He then takes this
information and deliberately tries to foment divisiveness among the
membership. If you actually read his drivel, his whole intent is to be
named as the repeater committee chairman and have only those that he
wants on the repeater committee. His idea of getting new people involved
in the repeater work is to tell everyone that they can come by whenever
the committee is working to "say hi". And that's a direct quote from one
of his e-mails.

You may want to note that the uproars that are occurring now and those
that have happened in the past have a common denominator -- Bob Sheskin
and Dave Weaver.

We made good progress at last night's meeting. We discussed proposed
changes to the by-laws that everyone present seemed to like. These
changes involve reducing the number of business meetings and bringing in
more fun through presentations and demonstrations. These two things are
more in keeping with the hobby that we love than are the business
meetings. Although the business meetings are necessary, we did not get
into this hobby to sit and slog our way through administrative duties.

I am trying to move in the direction where we can enjoy the hobby more,
in an environment of camaraderie and friendship. I have been president
of CARA only since January 1st. I am asking all of you to give me the
opportunity to bring new ideas and new faces into the club. This will
not happen if the same people choose the positions they like and stay
there indefinitely at the expense of the entire membership.

There is a flaw in the by-laws concerning the selection of the repeater
committee chairman. That's why I suggested at the February meeting a
work group or committee be formed to examine the by-laws as a whole in
order to find ambiguities and unclear language, then correct them. I
would have asked for volunteers to do just that at last night's meeting,
but it was sidelined by Jim and Shawn's proposal for a change. I thought
it best to give them a chance to have their proposal heard rather than
distract everyone with a new committee.

My intent now is to have the repeater committee be governed by Robert's
Rules of Order, in which it states that a committee chairman is chosen
by the committee. I had asked Eric to be chairman because I wanted a
comprehensive communications plan for the county that included all of
the "pie in the sky" things anyone in the club could imagine, and I knew
that he could produce such a plan. I would be quite happy if the
committee chose it's own chairman from the members that, according to
the by-laws, I selected.

My final statement is this: If you don't come to meetings, if you don't
speak up and make yourself heard, if you don't ask questions when you
don't like something you hear, if you just sit on the sidelines like a
coward and take pot shots at me, Eric or the rest of the board, you are
doing yourself an injustice and you deserve what you get.

If you don't like what I said in this e-mail, well, truth hurts. If you
really don't like it, impeach me. But if you want to talk, I'm here. And
if you want more divisiveness and turmoil in the club, listen to the Bob
and Dave show. They're on every morning, afternoon and night, 146,985 or
444.950.
