Kenwood use a fair simple s/n scheme. 
The first digit is the manufacturing year + 2 
The second and the third digit is the month 
Than you get the real s/n 
So, 709xxxx means: 7-2=5=1985 and 09 September 
This scheme is not applicable to items with the older kenwood's name "Trio".

Hi. 
  Does any one know how to determine date of manufacture of Kenwood 
Radios (vintage) ie; TS440 TS940 by the serial number. I think there is a way but I'm not sure . 
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
