While visiting Raleigh North Carolina I noticed that the local repeater
would retransmit NWS EAS using SAME when active for areas that are covered
by the repeater.

Specific Area Message Encoding (same) is a protocol used by the National
weathers service to encode Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages. This encoding
allows a receiver to remain muted until triggered by an area specific tone.

Basically a weather radio programmed with SAME codes specific to the
area that the 146.985 repeater can be heard in. This weather radio would
remain muted until a EAS is issued by the NWS (sever thunderstorm, tornado, etc etc.)
and then be retransmitted across the 146.985 repeater.

Can this be done with the CARA repeaters ?? Should it be done ?? Is there any interest in
having Emergency weather alerts for Calvert County and surrounding areas transmitted across
the repeater ??
