Here is a link to the Club ? or group that appear to supports several
repeaters in North Carolina. They seem to be very active in RACES and
ARES.

http://www.carolina440.net/

Scroll down the page to the section titled SAME Weather Radio Alerts (Raleigh System)

The alerts they transmit are...(from the website)............

The SAME Warnings are: Tornado Warning, Flash Flood Warning, Shearon-Harris Alert, Radiological Hazard, Civil Danger, Missing Child Statement-Amber Alert, Required Weekly and Monthly test.........

If the system is set up correctly with the right equipment there should not be any interference
with ECOMMS. With the correct configuration the ability to mute the SAME system and/or
manipulate it as needed should be available at all times.

It does not sound like the current CARA repeater equipment can accommodate this at this time. ??
with out giving up some control ??

Part 97.113.5c does address this directly, we could
retransmit government originated messages. In this day of
idiot lawsuits who would sue us first when the bulletin
didn't come out in a timely fashion saying we endangered
his life. I actually looked into this last night when this
thread stated and I think it would be possible to make it
happen through echolink. I am with Bill here, just
because we can I do not think we should. We have a meeting
Thursday, if someone wants to bring this up and discuss it
 by all means do!

 However ,Part 97 :  Sec
97.113  does cover this and its only
occasionally not for full time dissemination.

 Part 97 : Sec. 97.113 Prohibited
 transmissions

 section  a  item 5

 section c

I think its cool however on our main repeater I feel it
 would hamper E-COMMS ...

 My 2 cents

And I thought it Was against the rules to
 rebroadcast a one way transmission.

 Well...  it actually
does some magic on the repeater side.  It actually
 takes
priority over the repeater transmitter.  Also, by
having it as a remote base
you lose your ability to control it (shut it up) while it is
 transmitting.
Other than those two things, no, there is no reason why it
 has to be attached
to the controller.  It does simplify things, though.
