Ron WA4PRR if you could monitor from time to time, simplex 146.580 FM analog and let me know if you hear any digital noise. There is no TX/RX tone squelch, we are doing peer to peer simplex in wide and narrow band, voice and data; not continuously. Please bring the receiver squelch up in analog to quiet the frequency as SOP; I would be interested if digital breaks the squelch. Also, if you could note the time you hear anything. Thanks.

You are invited to Wednesday Lunch hour @ MHCC we are doing digital com for all to hear; and send data/photos.

At this moment I have the following with Systemfusion capability:

N3IDX

N3PPH

N3XMZ

KH6CUJ

K3UGA

KC4ZPL- Herrington Del/ (Anthony)

Have two possibles but not sure

W4OTN

KC3AEN

The simplex frequencies we are using are 146.580 and backup 146.595 if first is busy. You can call out on simplex in digital of FM analog or make contact on the repeater to QSY to simplex channel. Can send an email on the bounce to arrange QSO. Please don’t just listen if you have a Systemfusion radio….join in!

Jack KB3WUM, if you have time when you stop by to see Dave W3PQS I may be able to set up a demo for you at MHCC radio room this Wednesday night before Class. Let me know.

If anyone else has or will have capability now or soon please contact us to be put on the list, don’t want to leave anyone out.

We have no structure set as of yet, but we may set up some times during the day and evening to experiment. If such times are set up I will see that they get published on the bounce.

If you have any questions post them we are all in the learning mode.

Please try to pick up a micro sd card for your radio as soon as possible, data function will not work with no formatted card installed. Format the card in the radio not another device. I found some old micro sd cards in some early analog phones 1 and 2 GB. Directions say use 2 GB to 32 GB max. the 1 GB worked in the HT model fine until I could get a new one. It doesn’t have to be BIG….the programming software sold ADMS-M400 for the FTM-400DR has a card reader and micro sd card w/ adaptor. The sd card is only 2 GB, but they are class 10 so faster than the old class 4 cards. (does it matter ? maybe not.)

Anyway jump in play with it make a list of questions, missing directions in manuals and get those to Bob N3PPH so he may wright up a report to Yaesu.

Thanks everyone 73.

Regards,

Jim Tetlow

Bob, how does an analog user know when a digital QSO is going on? ( Unless one opens the tone squelch.). Or, if you only have tone on transmit, but normal squelch on receive, do you hear data tones? I guess we will find out during testing. 73,

That is the beauty of this system, if we turn on the digital capabilities everything that can talk on the repeater now will continue to work. Unlike Dstar, Systemfusion adds digital without losing analog FM.

Bob, thanks for the info. The details of the modulation scheme reminds me of reading NASA specs! At the current prices of the FM / Digital HT and mobile radios, most of our retired guys may not be able to afford new radios. I know I can't right now. (Reminds me of AM vs. SSB in the really early days on VHF!)

I think there will be interesting discussions at the meeting! 73,

During the net and on the repeater some of us have been talking about the new digital capabilities of our new repeater. The link below will shed some light on this if you are interested.

If you like to get real technical here are the specs from Yaesu about the new digital capabilities.
