[JRC] Here is a serious concern

Hector,
While I understand your concern, in my view the situation with JRC is
different from that of Drake and Swan. Swan is out of business. I'm not sure
about Drake, but they're certainly not the size of JRC, which has extensive
lines of receivers and marine radio and radar equipment that are used world
wide. From a post after mine, it sounds like Universal Radio provides good
service for JRC amateur gear and I, for one, am not going to sell my
JST-245. It's a great performer, and no matter what changes occur in the
position and size of the amateur bands, it will work. While it does seem
that the 70V switching supplies may be a bit fragile, I haven't had any
trouble with mine. To replace my JRC with anything that would perform as
well would require more money than I want to spend given the great rig
sitting on my desk right now. I bought it based on the QST review and have
not been disappointed. I wish it had been a commercial success for JRC.
Based on its quality and performance it deserved to be.
One final thought. The fact that there is only one dealer in the USA which
supports the JRC amateur line leads me to believe that JRC wants to make
sure there is enough business for them that it is worthwhile to give good
support. That says to me that JRC believes in supporting its dealers. So I
see that as a good sign not a bad one, given that the sales volume wasn't
anywhere near that of the "big three."
Of course, if anyone has a JRL-2000 they want to sell for a song...
