Yes the DSP can do odd things, I use the AGC in manual a lot - that
really helps, turn the volume up and use the RF Gain to control the
signal. But then that's a chore if you are band scanning.

Could be the AGC hanging on a little longer than needed - might be worth
trying without it. And then doing a side by side test when you next can
repeat the issue.

Yes the R71A is nice but has heinous AM audio! As for the 545's filters
they are extremely small, and all this is in a SMD area on the board,
not much fun to work with at all. And adding wires and some switching
logic no doubt will introduce issues of its own ... But you never know -
they said a 455Khz IF out was hard work but it was done after a while.

Its hard to say, I would if the radio works leave it as is, but if you
want the extra performance then yes get the filter done, you only have
to send the PCB board to Sherwood and not the whole radio which saves on
packing etc.
