Hi Chris:
If you look at all the high end, DSP for IF and detection, receivers
you'll find that the NRD-545 is the only one with IF bandwidths below
100 Hz. The 545 goes down to 10 Hz. Since the s/n ratio is a first
order function of bandwidth, the weakest signal that can be detected
with the 545 is 10 times lower than for the other receivers. Of course
at 10 Hz there can not be much in the way of modulation, like WWVB, the
digital modulation on WWV, or a carrier. For a CW station you can
match the IF bandwidth to the code speed. There is also a notch filter
that will remove a fixed tone caused by an adjacent station.
