The only keyer mod I saw on BAMA was for the Johnson Viking I and II and
VFO 122.

For those that have their pencils out, the first Ranger schematic that
was issued, and did not have the keyer mod added, was dated 7/24/54.
The keyer mod addition to the Ranger was offered to customers shortly
after 11/1/54. The keyer mod schematic is dated 10/28/54.
All Rangers, factory wired or kitted after 11/15/54, had the addition of
the keyer modification.

Very easy way to tell if you have the keyer mod in the Ranger. Remove the
Ranger from the cabinet. Look straight down right over the VFO. Look to
the left of the VFO. Over the Mode switch is an added chassis with two
tubes on it. That's the keyer mod. Simple! Don't even have to trace out
any wires.
One tube, 12AU7 is the keyer and the other tube, 6AL5, is the bias
rectifier. The -28 volts modulator bias is fed to the 6AL5 where the
negative bias is doubled to -56 volts to feed the keyer. Saved Johnson
from having to diddle around with the existing power transformer or
adding another small power transformer and parts.
