Hi Don,

Besides the front panel color, the next most obvious difference is the 
two gas the roman numeral 2 right on the front panel. I have the 1 which 
does not have a 1 on the front panel. They probably didn't know about 
the 2 when they were making the 1s.

In both models there are factory built units and kit units. The factory 
units have things like tube sockets and other parts riveted to the 
chassis. The kits are assembled with screws and nuts. After all this 
time there may be some oxidation or corrosion from tobacco smoke and 
those riveted grounding points may have to be drilled, cleaned up, and 
reassembled with screws and nuts. The kit models might get by with 
loosening and retightening those screws. Mine was a kit and I had to 
tickle the screws.

The drive control pot is a four watt, wire-wound resistor and I had to 
replace mine.
