Loved your Valiant "check list" :) I'm still chuckling over it. hi hi I need to recap mine and put in a 3 wire plug. Mine 'thunks' on power up so I'd love to reduce that huge surge on the transformer. I don't know if thermisters are the answer. Pretty fast. Wonder if I could put a relay under the chassis to give a couple second of current limited (a resistor) charge on the caps before shorting the resistor and letting the cap charge the rest of the way.
Are any of you Valiant users still running the 866 mercury vapor rectifiers? I replaced mine with 3B28's back in 1996. I still miss the nuclear fusion like glow from the 866's though.
