I think some on this list are suspicious of this post. I will
assume it is serious. The Viking Valiant does NOT have a side tone.
CW is monitored in the receiver or a separate side tone generator is
used. Zero beating is done in the same way by turning off the receiver
mute and listening to the signal from the exciter part of the
transmitter on the receiver. If you have been getting a signal for zero
beating on 20 meters it should still be there unless the transmitter is
not putting out at all on that band (possible).
Tell us about the rest of the set up; what kind of receiver are
you using, do you have an antenna tuner, how do you switch the antenna
from receive to transmit? Any other details.
