Hi Jim,

Thanks for your testimony. That is exactly what I am going to try next. 
If that doesn't clean it up I am building a Hallicrafters HA-5 
work-alike and plug that into one of the xtal sockets. The HA-5 is a 
heterodyne VFO box that would have output on 160 and 40 meters for a 
Ranger. The mixer would be keyed for spotting and the output buffer 
keyed as well to transmit. I will be building that anyway for the MOPA 
transmitters I have here with no VFOs.
