[Johnson] Viking 1 "gotchas" ?

Brian and Patrick,

That should be interesting. I have a Viking II ready for rehab and am about to acquire
a second one. Since nobody seems to want these any more, I plan to keep them
and put the best one on the air. First I will repair and personalize it. Thanks for the
tip about Mouser.

I have a D104 but it sounds like someone has possibly put a cheap, tinny sounding cartridge
in it. At least - I put it into my guitar amplifier and there seemed to be very little of the bottom
end that I normally hear out of a D104, and the output seemed low. This mic came with a
repainted base that looked scruffy, although the mic head looks OK. The cable is not original
and there was no plug on it. All bad signs (grin!)

I wonder where I would find a replacement cartridge that sounds just like a D104 these days.

I will let you guys know how it come slaong with the restoration on these rigs.

What final tube does the Viking use? A 4D32 isn't it? I think my Viking II uses a pair of 6146s.

This has been on the back burner for a few weeks, but will not stay there. I will probably sell
the Globe Scout 680A to make room for this Viking II in the shack.
