[Johnson] [Boatanchors] Renamed: Ranger's Delicate Shaft Coupling Repair

I'll throw in my .02 here on the broken shaft coupler. I have broken two of them over the years.
Drilling out the riviera must be done
Carefully and always use fresh sharp bits.
I used a gasket bolt hole punch kit ( it's a pipeline tool) and punched out a piece of the lid from one of my wives Tupperware containers!
I went to Home Depot and found a package of very small brass screws with split washers and nuts! Worked like a charm!
The best part is I have two of the punch outs left :)

> Lee and Stu, That's great to hear of your success with rebuilding a broken shaft coupler. Up until yesterday I didn't even know what that particular shaft coupler looked like. All I knew was what I've read over the years where the mysterious shaft coupler was delicate and unobtainium. It's good to know there is a sound fix in case the coupling is damaged. 73, Scott WA9WFA

I drilled out the rivets and replaced the broken wafer with a piece of thin printed board G-10 material. (I think the PC material was around 1/16th inch thick or maybe even a little thinner.) I cut it to the same diameter as the old one and mounted it with miniature nuts and bolts. It worked out great. (Yes I etched the copper off of it.)

I took some photos that I will share with the group so folks can see what that coupling looks like. THis is my first foray into the guts of the VFO beyond simply opening the side panel and replacing the 18K."
