[Johnson] Invader 200 VFO Modification

I know the Invader has had a reputation for a drifting VFO.  Whether 
this is deserved or not is beside the point.  Has anyone out there 
preformed the factory recommended VFO modifications of moving all the 
frequency determining components to the above chassis VFO box and 
installing a separate, always on, filament transformer for the VFO 
tube?  If so do you have any personal opinions, hard data, or just other 
observations as to its effect?

I have 3 Invaders to refurbish.  This modification looks to be real PITA 
job.  I would like to know something about it before I start.  The 
details of this modification are in a factory letter I have dated 
December 1962.
