Hi,

On mine the shield box is a three-sided "C" shaped piece with the fourth
side being that removable side plate. The top is a separate piece. The
bottom is, of course, the main chassis. I have had the front panel off
from mine for better access to more of it. But I don't remember if I
found the front facing side slotted or not. I disassembled the radio far
enough that didn't matter. I will be taking it apart again and I will be
looking to remove the VFO completely from the Ranger and powering it up
in a stand-alone mode on the bench for some more serious TLC. I suspect
one of the divider caps in the 40 meter circuit is *bad*. The VFO won't
be going back in until it passes satisfactory tests and thorough runup
and burn-in on the bench.
