[Johnson] Valiant Chirp suggestions

Hi Art,
Wow, how did you (or google) find that pic of the bronze braid on the
shaft? I got looking at my website, and it's not referenced anywhere, but
it is there. I thought I had documented my work on that rig when I did it
(late Fall 2007) but it never found it's way to a webpage. I think I took
pix of scope traces on the RF feedback problem, can't find them now. There
is a page on a Valiant, but that one was back in 2001, and only some pix. I
did do a lot of electrical cleanup, repl. electrolytics, etc., but didn't do
any audio mods like I did do in a Viking I (that also needs more info on
it's page). I used the "new" Valiant a bit on 160 & 75 last winter, SB &
AM, will be at it again when it cools off.
Using a crystal will tell you if the chirp is in the VFO or not, so it's
a good idea. It's usually that 18k resistor in the VFO, and you should
change that no matter. I guess I'll have to go back to emails on the
subject to see what else plagued me at the time, and try to put a page
together. (I'd much rather work on old radios than on website stuff.) I
also have more pix & info on the Viking I that I did abt 2 yrs ago, which
was just delivered to a new owner at Shelby this yr (after being paid for
but not picked up for over a yr).
Keep us posted on your work.
