Regarding chirp on 40 meters only, I got around this by simply adjusting 
the vfo band switch coupling so that the 1.75 - 2.0 mhz vfo tank is used 
for 40 meters, still plenty of drive and it cleaned it up perfectly, 
just as simple to change it back again if no longer required.
