[Johnson] Ranger Factory Wired Question

One major problem is that the rivits often come loose
and/or become corroded over the years and thus cause
all sorts of "strange" problems in the transmitters.
Remember that all of the internal grounds are made
using these rivits.

When machine screws are used you can loosen and then
retighten them to eliminate the bad grounds (about 90%
of the "strange" problems that I see in boat anchor
equipment that I repair for others can be traced
directly to this hardware). Unfortunately, with the
rivits you have to either reseat them using a hammer
and punch or else add many wires to make sure the
grounds are complete.

Although the "factory wired" units are more desirable,
they can also be quite a "bear" to work on when they
start having problems.

Rivets are indicative of a factory wired unit. These
are more "highly desired" than your kitted versions
(because of the consistency of the factory wiring).
This also may have been a purposeful move by EFJ to
distinguish the kits from the factory builts.

Hence, be happy and rejoice! You have something that
is somewhat sought after.
