wire size / ampacity for AC from NEC ( national electrical code.. not those
folks in japan)
10 guage = 30 amps
12 guage = 20 amps
14 guage = 15 amps
16 guage = ?? 12 amps ?? cant remember
std house wiring practice is to select for load of not more than 80% of the
rated ampacity...
but for appliance cords.. these standards are considerably lower ( cheaper
for manufacturers is why)
however, you have to consider not only the voltage drop in the cord
itself...but also the drop in the circuit feeding the outlet.
SJ cord is nice and tough.. and usually doesnt want to fit the dang hole we
have to work with.
