   Thanks for the reply, Dee - all this is starting to form some patterns - 
would it be possible for you to mention the designations of the parts you 
feel are likely cuprits?  I have not replaced the doorknob, because it's 
up to it's leakage and value specs - that's not to say it's not failing 
under load.  I have replaced all the RF section caps I could find, 
otherwise - with disk ceramics of correct value and voltage - including 
doubling-up where required - perhaps this is incorrect, and I need to quad 
the ones that were originally installed? (the C38 string, for example).


   Thanks so much for your help - I'm really looking forward to some AM 
QSOs with this old girl!
