Yeah I've got my Valiant open for repair as well. I'm embarrassed to say that I blew it out maybe 5 years ago while trying to get on 160 with an 80 meter dipole... I set it on the shelf and put another transmitter in the operating position. I've been wanting to have the Valiant back online for a while now.
I opened it up and saw that the helicoper style loading cap at the end of the Coupling wafer was fried. Even the solder connections looked toasted and brittle. I've ordered some Vitramon HV RF caps, 680 pf for the 600 pf position, 1000pf for 1000 pf, and a 1000pf + 200pf for the 1200 pf position.
Now I have to order some 6146's. Of the 3 PA tubes, 2 are bad and one seems ok. Once I get the caps replaced and the new 6146's installed, then I"ll find out if thats the extent of the damage or if there's more to be found.
