I bought a Dentron Super Tuner last year, from a private source who I've
been dealing with for over 10 years. I used it with a short single-ended
temporary antenna and low-power Kenwood TS-430S. It was never "right" -
but it got out and I chalked it up to not knowing some detail of it's
operation. It just exhibited 'anomalous' behavior.

Last week I took it to a friend's QTH to help set up a new antenna...
he has a Johnson 500, and this time the tuner's behavior proved rather
spectacularly anomalous.... so I took the case off it, and found that the
function switch deck somehow wrong - it's upside down, but it is also "one
detent out of phase" - the detent/stops are on the front panel, and a long
fibre shaft runs back to the switch - the rotor of the switch is one
position off from where it needs to be - the shaft has milled flats, and
it's not twisted - the switch is wrong. It has been this way from the
factory and can never have worked properly.

So now I've had a night's sleep and some coffee, it's time to see what
the Valiant is complaining about... in all these cases, the Rule is:
"whatever you did last, undo that and start from there..."

  Cheers
