To "key" current contemporary amplifiers, you are
going to have to use an external antenna relay to
provide the relay output to key your amp. At the back
of the Valiant is a ceramic HC/U-6 socket. Glen Zook
can provide you a plug at nominal cost. Use this to
pipe out the 115 VAC to your relay (usually a Dow
Key). The use the contacts off of the Dow Key relay to
key your amp. Just be sure that the output level of
the Valiant is low for AM. You can't use most
contemporary amps at 1KW or so for AM. You have to
drive the amp such that the amp is at 1/3 to 1/4 its
PEP output power.

I think 100W out of the Valiant for CW is o.k.

I hope this helps. BTW, your Valiant should do well
barefoot on AM.
