[Johnson] Valiant VFO drive

All: I'm looking for some assistance. I have reported before that the
Valiant II VFO "pulls" when tuning the exciter adjustment. It's most
noticeable on 160 and 40, since that's the same range as the VFO
fundamental. Much less of an issue on 75, 20, 15, and 10. Two questions:
1. Is this a design issue (I can't believe it, and don't remember it from
playing with a Valiant II at a friend's station many, many years ago, but
maybe my memory isn't so hot)? Can anyone else with a Valiant II check for
pulling on 160 or 40 or both and let me know if this is common?
2. To get a baseline on where I'm supposed to be, is anyone with a Valiant I
or II willing to terminate the VFO output jack on the back in something like
330 ohms or so and measure the peak-to-peak VFO output on 160 and 40 with an
o-scope with a low-cap probe? I'd really like to baseline where things
ought to be.
I absolutely can't seem to nail down where the problem lies. All the DC
voltages except the screen voltage on the 6CL6 seem to be right on target;
the screen voltage is low but the resistor is on target and the bypass cap
to ground isn't leaky. Transmitter has plenty of output, but for the life
of me I can't nail this problem down. The 18K resistor has been replaced...
Thanks to all.
