I have been a ham for about 20 years, and passed the code
I feel if the hobby is to SURVIVE THE INTERNET, CELL PHONES, TEXT MESSAGING
ETC. WE MUST CHANGE WITH THE TIMES.
No hobby or business can ever say the same if it does it will disappear into
history. "THE ONLY CONSTANT IS CHANGE"
I agree code is important but not to the possible decline of radio
operators. If we loose operators, we will loose parts or all of our bands.
Other entities want our bands for commercial uses, does any one remember UPS
and the loss of part of the 220 band. This is a small example of WHAT WILL
HAPPEN if we don't prop up our membership.
Here is a true story and an example of what could happen.
There was a company on the east coast who made the best Buggy Whips in the
industry. When the automobile was introduced there sales started dropping,
the owner was advised to modify his business plan and change his product
line. THE OWNER SAID, "NO WE HAVE BEEN MAKING BUGGY WHIPS FOR OVER A HUNDRED
YEARS AND WILL CONTINUE FOR THE NEXT HUNDRED YEARS.
Within several years, the company folded.
Don't let this happen to our hobby, find way to recruit younger ham's or it
will end in the next 50 years
