Hi Tony,

Just to set the record straight, I was licensed as a novice in 1953 and had
to take a 6 hour one way bus trip to Atlanta to do it. I went to Atlanta again
in 1953 during Xmas vacation and passed my General. My Advanced was taken in
the Baltimore field office on the last day that testing was offered by the
FCC. While I was there, they were sending 25WPM groups for some commercial test
which I coipied for laughs. I missed one group. I passed my 20WPM extra code
test in Alexandria on the last week before they went to the 5WPM requirement.
With over 50 years as an active ham and never even a pink ticket or nastygram
from Riley (Knock Wood), I am no CBer. I may talk the talk but I don't walk
the walk! Oh, And by the way, I built my novice transmitter from an article in
CQ magazine plus a V II and an Apache. I even know which end of a soldering
iron to hold and I don't have one of the "instant cools" you see in the
infomercials.

73,

 John, W4AWM
