The Viking II was often used by Civilian Defense
organizations and were paid for with government funds.
Those versions usually had the "CD" logo on them.
The "CD" versions are not rare at all.
As for the BX-221, you definitely need some sort of
tuned buffer stage. Also, you need to use the high
range (2 to 4 MHz if I remember correctly) so that you
can deal with the fundamental frequency instead of a
harmonic.
