NO!
The Valiant II did NOT have 6 meters added. The
Ranger II DID have 6 meters added. The design of the
Valiant using 3 6146 tubes in parallel would have been
very difficult to make work on 6 meters whereas the
single 6146 in the Ranger II was relatively easy.
>From the Johnson advertisement on page 101 of the
August 1962 issue of QST announcing the "new" Valiant
II:
"Completely bandswitching 160 through 10 meters"
Same thing in the catalogue section of the 1964 ARRL
Amateur Radio Operator's Handbook.
11 meters was a "shared band" with amateur radio being
a secondary user. In late 1957 the FCC established
the Class "D" Citizen's Radio Service as a land-mobile
service and withdrew the amateur radio allocation. 11
meters was NEVER an amateur radio band per se'. From
after World War II until the creation of the Class "D"
Citizen's Radio Service amateur radio operators were
allowed to utilize those frequencies. However,
amateur radio was even secondary to things like
diathermy machines that were used by doctors and
hospitals.

Nobody gave you an answer, so here goes. Both the
Ranger I and Valiant I covered the 11 meter HAM band.
These transmitters were designed and manufactured
BEFORE the 11 meter ham band was turned into the CB
band. Around 1959 (I don't remember the exact date)
the 11 meter band was changed to the CB band and so
the design of the ranger I and Valinat I was changed
to reflect that. Johnson added the 6 meter band to
both of these rigs and changed their names to the
Ranger II and the Valiant II. The circuitry was
basically the same except for the doubler circuitry
that was added to provide the 6 meter band. That
statement is based on the LATE ranger I and Valiant I
circuits.
