To get the cover off the Ranger VFO you need to remove the VFO shaft.  To
remove the VFO shaft the front panel has to be removed.

Be careful of the phenolic coupler!! If broken it can be fixed with fresh
"Super-Glue"

It is a lot easier to work on the Ranger with the VFO shield and front panel
removed.
