Yes, the factory specifications are for two fuses, one standard 5 amp and
also a 3 amp slow blow. The 5 amp is not a slow blow and will open with a
short very quickly, the slow blow will open at a higher than normal current
draw which could be less than 5 amps.

Cal. Something is wrong somewhere? Are you 100% sure the original design of
the Ranger specified two different size fuses or did someone install a
different fuse? If your ranger transmitter has two different size fuses, I
suspect that is a mistake? If you are absolutely sure the original Johnson
schematic or parts list shows two different size fuses, I would suspect that
to be an error in the manual. My Valiant II manual shows ONE fuse in the
power transformer primary. My Valiant manual shows two primary fuses to
protect both power supplies and both are 6 ampere fuses. There is also an
additional single 1.5 ampere fuse in the primary of the power supply for the
modulator. This 1.5 ampere fuse is in series with one of the 6 ampere dual
main fuses. The best thing to do is install a three wire polarized cord and
fuse the hot(black) lead to the main power switch. It is dangerous practice
to fuse the neutral(white)lead.- 73- Sherrill W. k4own.
