Well I think I have finally fixed my Viking II. Thanks to you all I got it.
There where a number of problems. My weak modulation was caused by a pair
of bum
807's (remember the expression I'll have a cold 807), One of the 6005's was
suspicious and one of the 6146's was gassy and the socket it was sitting in
was very loose.

The second major and the cause of the arcing in the 6146's, if you are not
sitting down please do so, was yours truly It was 0130 in the morning and I
was down to my last brain cell. I had half of my diagnostic gear plugged,
hooked, attached, hanging, leaning, on my poor Viking, there where wires
every where. There was only one problem
I had forgotten to attach the coax running to my cantenna. Transmitters do
no like
transmitting into SO239's, this fitting is not a resonate antenna
BUZZZZZ-ZAPPPPP!

In testing this evening on a full set of brain cells I had the Viking key
down into the cantenna for 10 minuets with no problems at all. Listening on
the nearby R390A
It's tone sounded good, and my voice sounded good at what I would call
normal
settings on the audio input control.

I have a question about the 6146's. The Viking II does not have any
neutralization
adjustments is there any problem using the newer 6146B's and W's. It really
doesn't matter to me either way except the 6146W is just a touch easier to
find, if not the
6293 is available from RF parts for 22.00 bucks each.
