When i got my first Viking II about 8 -10 years ago and got a wakeup call
while hooking up the Dow-Key relay for it.

It was plugged in but the socket isn't hot with the power off. yeah right.
I'd used some xtal pins soldered to the wire from the relay and was plugging
them into the relay socket. got one in and when i pushed the other one in
the first one came out and touched the chassis. Pop, Smoke, Pow. WHOA big
fella!!!! Actually i said more than that.

When i pulled the thing out of the cabinet, it had had some modifications
underneath and for some reason for which i don't totally remember now, the
socket was hot all the time. I corrected the wiring to that, removed the
push to talk circuitry and rewired the power cord putting the black one thru
the fuse then to the power on-off switch after putting a 3 wire cord in place
of the old double fused plug and cord.

Maybe thats why i got it so cheap in the first place. ANyway, Switch to
safety. When in doubt, pull the plug.

There definately was a message in that event. I know i was not the smartest
at that time but things like this sure do speed up the learning curve.....
