Don't know how it could be dangerous. If it is, can you explain (serously). Glen Zook is the man who sells these connector/wire combos uses old HC-6 xtals and wire to make such a connector. I have one currently installed with a Dow Key relay and works fine. I don't see any apparent material or electrical failures in this configuration. Cal, N6KYR.

Yes it is the case.

There are many methods:
1) (perhaps the best) take apart a junk HC-6 crystal and make it into a
connector. (One guy was selling these a while ago.)
2) Stuff whatever wire you can into the socket and hope for the best.
3) (If you are lucky) use the correct original now unobtainium plugs
4) Change the thing out for a reasonable connector that is safe and
convenient.
