I have been studying VHF parasitic suppressors, very interesting. With what
I have learned I can see why the Viking II would be touchy The 6146 will
resonate into the VHF region making suppression of parasitics in this
frequency
all the more important. Running a pair of these tubes in parallel makes it
even worse.
With this knowledge I have added yet another piece of test equipment to the
list I take to the next ham feast I need a dip meter in order to properly
test a suppressor. I sure am glad I am learning this. Working on transmitter
is a different them working on a
receiver. I suspect I am going to need all of what I learned and more on
the Viking 1.
I am going to do wholesale parts replacement on it. The soldering is rotten,
and many
sort cuts were taken. Fortunately the lay out of the Viking I is a little
better then
the second model.
