I have been studying VHF parasitic suppressors, very interesting.  With what 
I have learned I can see why the Viking II would be touchy The 6146 will
resonate into the VHF region making suppression of parasitics in this 
frequency
all the more important. Running a pair of these tubes in parallel makes it 
even worse.
With this knowledge I have added yet another piece of test equipment to the 
list I take to the next ham feast  I need a dip meter in order to properly 
test a suppressor. I sure am glad I am learning this. Working on transmitter 
is a different them working on a
receiver.  I suspect I am going to need all of what I learned and more on 
the Viking 1.
I am going to do wholesale parts replacement on it. The soldering is rotten, 
and many
sort cuts were taken.  Fortunately the lay out of the Viking I is a little 
better then
the second model.
