[Johnson] 18 k VFO resistor advice?

Dear Cal: Please be advised that there was a recent article about this exact
same subject in ELECTRIC RADIO MAGZINE. I strongly recommend that you obtain
a copy and read the article about the 18K resistor and the disasterous
results if it happens to burn-up where it is originally mounted. As well as I
remember, the author recommended that it be relocated outside the VFO

I'm continuing my rebuild of the Ranger. Just want to know if I can replace
the 18k 3 watt resistor with a 5 watt 20k without adverse effects. Let me
