[Johnson] Ranger keyer problem

Hi all.
Today I was "going through" the Ranger (original) that recently came my way
on "permanent loan". Checking all the tubes etc (replaced a weak driver and
a weak clamp tube). About 3 years ago I went through this set THOROUGHLY,
replacing all filter caps, paper caps etc, at which time some modest audio
mods was also done.

After checking the tubes etc I decided to "tune it up" and make sure that
it's fully functional before putting it in it's cabinet and into the
operating position. (YES, I'm aware of safety precautions to use when
running a TX with no covers, I got NOWHERE near the HV sections and kept one
hand in my pocket).

Anyway, the differential keying section is inop. That is, I can't adjust
the pot to the point where I can cut the VFO off with the key down.

Any thoughts before I pull the Keyer chassis up? Since CW will be my
primary mode of operation I want it "right".

Incidentally, the two 1614 modulators test quite weak and with a "life" test
that drops. Since I don't have any and they're not important for CW I'll
leave them "as is" for now. Maybe later.

73 from the "Beaconeers Lair".
