Hi Skip,

To the best of my knowledge, 6146 and 6146As were compatible in the majority 
of applications.  The B version had slightly different parameters, 
specifically, as I remember, in the screen circuit. You can find NOS 6146s at the larger 
hamfests for $10 to $12 each. I would not pay much more for them unless you 
are in a bind.
