[Johnson] Re Valiant Paint.

I don't know what happened at the Waseca plant back in the 60's but EFJ must have goofed here! Just about all "II" series equipment (save the front panel on the Ranger II) had shoddy/crappy paint. Got long fingernails! Be careful! You can scratch the paint off of a Valiant II front panel or the EFJ SSB adapter. All the cases had that bad chippable paint. The best thing to do for a Valiant (if you can find someone to do it) is to have a silkscreen master of the panel made, match the paint, strip EVERYTHING down to parade rest (bare metal) and work your way back up with a quality primer and matching paint system. For the cabinets, I resort to powdercoating, nothing less if I can help it. BTDT! Cal, N6KYR.

Subject: [Johnson] Refinishing a Valiant II

I have a Valiant II that needs a little case paint, and needs a new label on
the front. Do any of you know folks who do Valiant IIs? I'm not that
skilled a painter, for certain.

Also, I haven't seen a sideband adapter for the Valiant come by in a long
time. Any suggestions on where I might unearth one?

Thanks,
Dave WB4FUR

My suggestion is to use the services of your local car painter. They are brilliant at matching paint. A local painter specializing in air brushing and custome hot rod work is even better.

Labels are a problem. I don't have an answer although there is a guy in the USA who has all the silkscreening systems to do new front panels.

Hope this helps
